Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic that can be prescribed to treat ear infections, skin infections, strep throat, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sexually transmitted diseases, respiratory infections and a number of other illnesses as determined by your health care provider. If you are also taking other drugs (prescription of over-the-counter medicines, vitamins herbal supplements and minerals) make sure you let your doctor know about them. It’s recommended to make a list of all the drugs you are taking for your doctor to take a look. Do not take antacids containing magnesium or aluminum along with Zithromax – at least two hours should pass between an antacid and a dose of Zithromax.
This medicine is FDA pregnancy category B – it has not been reported to affect the health of unborn babies; it can, however, pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding talk to your doctor before taking this drug. Even if your symptoms improve significantly after a few days of taking this drug, continue with the usual dosing schedule as your infection may not be completely treated. Do not share this medicine with other people to whom it was not prescribed as they may have a number of contraindications.
